About Us - The Predator Story

In 1969, upon returning from the service, John and Norma Thomas started a small retail boat dealership. John sold is 1967 firebird and invested everything into a life-long dream. A sportsman at heart, John Thomas enjoyed every minute of the outdoors. He knew that recreation was an important part of each individual and family member.

In 1984, after fourteen years in the retail business, a long term plan and goal became a reality. It was, for John and Norma Thomas, a dream come true: Thomas Marine entered into the manufacturing world. By combining all his sales and service experience, ideas from his own experience on the water, and suggestions from valued customers and friends, John started to design the first boat. He tested and retested this design until he established a tough, self-bailing boat with practical, economical and beneficial features. John was a simple man who demanded quality and performance, the ultimate goal for his boat...The Predator. Offering 16' and 18' models, with a simple layout and design, Predator entered the market in full swing, January of 1985.

Near the end of an exciting, eventful and rewarding first year for Predator, in November of 1985 John was killed in a tragic plane crash. This was not only devasting for the family but also for all the friends and customers we had grown close to over the years. Faced with a major decision concerning the future of Predator Boats, Norma, made the decision to continue what her husband John had started.

Today, Predator is a thriving and successful company that offers a 100% hand -laid boat in a variety of models. With John's goals and plans, and the hard work and dedication of many people, we are building 16', 18', 18'-6", 19'-6", 22'-2" models. The foundation for Predator was laid back in 1984. All the love and support of family and friends have made the foundation stronger.
